So today, as I was walking to one of the meetings for the Truth and Life Conference here at college, I heard an incessant chattering from one of the nearby trees. I quickly froze, slowly turning around so as not to scare whatever it was.
Latched onto the trunk of the closest tree was a small brown squirrel. He was holding on upside-down, so that his head was pointed at the ground, and he seemed very angry about something. He was chattering loudly at a point almost directly beneath him. So, I glanced down to see what all the fuss was about.
On the ground, pressed against the fence beneath the tree, was a plastic Von's bag. Every time the wind blew, the bag would rustle and the squirrel would be off on another tirade. It was so funny, that I began to shake with silent laughter. But, quiet as I could be, he must have heard me, for he froze motionless. At a sound from the ground, I glanced down to see a small bird hopping away from me. And when I looked back up, my yelling friend was gone.
I wonder if he thought he won the argument......
